Physical education at Maribyrnong Primary School is about more than just participation in sports and games. Our purpose is to develop in students a combination of transferable skills promoting physical, intellectual, emotional and social development; to encourage present and future choices that contribute to long term healthy living and to understand the cultural significance of physical activities for individuals and communities. We promote the benefit of a healthy lifestyle and the need to take personal responsibility for health and safety. Our educators ensure that physical education forms part of their daily program for up to 20 minutes. Each lesson is designed to improve and consolidate fundamental motor skills as outlined in the Australian Curriculum. We offer additional opportunities to participate in specialist sporting clinics as well as school carnivals such swimming, cross county and athletics. Students may then qualify for the next levels of competition including the Belconnen District and ACT levels.
