Our School

Maribyrnong offers outstanding facilities. The school comprises units of flexible design that allow for multi-age and small groupings, formal and informal work areas, large and small group activities and support, extension and special interest programs. Each teaching space is equipped with an interactive whiteboard, computers and iPads for teacher and student use. Collaboration and consistency define the approach taken by our educators who together to plan, teach and assess learning and teaching in the classroom. Educational programs are guided by the Australian Curriculum to build student understandings and skills. Key programs utilised at the school include Brain, Eyes and Ears (BEE) Spelling; guided, reciprocal and cooperative reading; Sounds Write; and Count Me In Too Mathematics.

Other facilities on offer include a multi-purpose hall which is used for sports programs, performing arts, programs, fortnightly assemblies and community events. Our library was recently renovated to ensure that we maintain an innovative and flexible approach towards information literacy. It contains a comprehensive collection of the most recent books and educational resources.

Our school has a Learning Support Unit and a Learning Support Unit Autism which cater for a small number of students who have a range of mild to moderate physical and/or intellectual disabilities or who have an autism diagnosis. Wherever possible the children are included in mainstream classes for specific lessons.

The students play in an expansive, leafy playground with a variety of play environments and specialist areas for soccer, netball, basketball and handball. Extensive shady grounds provide sun safe areas for outdoor activities.

Recent renovations include the custom purposing of a science centre. This space includes an indoor and outdoor learning facility which promotes learning about a variety of sciences including human, biological, physical and chemical.

Building the Education Revolution funding resulted in the full refurbishment of both student toilet blocks, the multi-purpose hall, classroom wet areas, front entrance and Learning Support Unit. External painting of the building was completed mid 2010. These renovations have delivered a campus of outstanding attractiveness and functionality that will be enjoyed by the Maribyrnong School community for many years to come.
